Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed September 15 to October 15, 2025, as Latino Heritage Month in California, recognizing the more than 15 million Latinos who are “foundational to our state’s identity, success, and future.” In his proclamation, the Governor stressed that “the contributions of generations of Latinos are fundamental to the success and scale of California’s society, economy, culture, and values.”
To mark the start of the month, San Diego Regional Center highlighted PUENTE, a program that creates a welcoming space for Latino and Hispanic parents of children with developmental disabilities. In the video, Sandra shared how the group gave her strength and support through connection with other parents.

This month, and every month, the Department celebrates our Latino community, including the people we serve, their families, DSPs, providers, and colleagues. Gracias for the many contributions your work and culture bring to our developmental services system and to California.
